Lee's right; there are a lot of fake bank drafts around. I'm not paranoid,
but I've been badly burnt before when I've sold an expensive car, so
unfortunately I trust nobody. When I sold my SLK last summer, I did as
described below; drove the car, buyer and draft to my local bank and had it
paid in. I didn't get them to ring the originating bank though; maybe I
should have, but all till staff are aware of the serial numbers of any fake
drafts going around.

Bank drafts should be OK, as they are drawn on the issuing bank rather than
the persons personal account.
That said there have been cases of stolen bank draft blanks being used to
con the unsuspecting.
Your best bet is to take the buyer AND his bank draft to YOUR bank and pay
it into your account.
Get YOUR banks staff to phone HIS bank and verify the draft is valid AND
give you confirmation in WRITING.
You may have to pay a fee of =A310-=A315 but in this case I think it would
=
be
money well spent.
