Dodgy CM12Us

Just borrowed a CM12u from a friend for experimentation purposes, but it
is displaying exactly the same lack of functionality that mine
previously did (along with a tell tale pungent odour). He hasn't used
his for a while but it has been powered. They were both purchased
around the same time.

Has anyone been able to ascertain which component(s) are failing and
what to replace them with? I've only got a couple of X10 devices to
control and I refuse to pay 50 odd quid for something that is evidently
quite shit, although unfortunately necessary.

Cheers

James
