I don't know how often it talks to the servers, but with my old dial up
account, I found that it kept my connection alive all the time even when
I had the timeout set to 5 minutes if I forgot to signout when
finished.  I guess it must be within this time otherwise my connection
would have dropped.

If you run Ethereal on your PC you may be able to see how often it talks
with the servers. Just an idea. Not something I am worried about myself
as I only use it from the PC.
