Re: [OT] Laptop Recommendations
Hi,
I have got my last two Dell laptops from their outlet site, I found it was
best to phone them, the website doesn't seem to keep most of the stock on
it, think it's moving too quick to update for them!
I think they were amused at my last purchase - "Please can I have the
most
sexy of your inspirons" They found a very nice one that has only
recently
started to appear seriously outdated. All right for unreal 2002 but can't
quite hack unreal 2004! (To get rid of stress at the end of the day while
stuck in a hotel room!)
Cheers
Richard

I'm keeping an eye on the outlet site at the moment (a couple of laptops
for
work). There's not a whole lot on there at the moment, but it does change
pretty quickly. From your spec, it sound like you need to be looking at
the
Inspirons, as they tend to be better value than the Latitudes, and come
with
'consumer' niceties such as TV-out, DVD drives etc. The downside is that
they tend to be heavier than the Lats, and not quite as robust, but they're
fine. You could pick up an Inspiron meeting your spec for around £600 +
VAT/p&p. The outlet price is normally around £250 off list price.
In terms of memory, you don't get much choice on the outlet site, but if
you
find a laptop that's OK in every other respect, just buy the additional
memory from Crucial; they're normally cheaper than Dell anyway.

Yep, that'll do it. Bit more RAM wouldn't hurt though, especially for XP
(I have 368Mb on my win2k lappy, and could sometimes do with more).

Dell factory outlet...
