I'd think you'd only need a cross over. I'd be suprised if it would use
cts/rts
so try a cable that is
3--->2 (Tx-Rx)
2--->3 (Rx-Tx)
5-->5 (gnd)
I'd also enable local echo within hyperterminal to see what you are typing
(assuming it's not echoed back)
Shout if this doesn't work
