Hi
Thanks for the help again. I did do a make install but the file was not
there.
Anyway the good news is I have two xlite phones talking, I'm not sure
what I was doing wrong I simply deleted most of what I had entered and
started again with the sip.conf file. If anyone else is trying this and
wants the configs I can post them.
I have added a few test commands like the echo test and date etc they
all work OK as well.
I was going to see if I could get the voicemail to work but I do not
have
/usr/src/asterisk/addmailbox
It is not there.
I have found addmailbox in
/usr/src/asterisk/contrib/scripts
If I do a ls addmailbox shows up green but if I type addmailbox at the
prompt then it just comes back with "command not found"
This "linux" thing is very strange but I am impressed with
asterisk and
would encourage anyone to have a look at it.
Hopefully the questions are not to bad and may help others trying
asterisk but if its annoying anyone let me know and I will take it
offlist.

did you do a :
make install
? That would normally copy the file for you...

Personally, I think xlite sucks... It makes itself awkward to configure
hence the references to sjphone in the guide.
You may also want to check out the IAX clients here:
http://iaxclient.sourceforge.net/
the one here:
http://www.laser.com/dante/diax/diax.html
was done by Dan, who is on list iirc...
Failing that I can try and offer some basic assistance with xlite
The advantage of using an IAX client is that you have far fewer firewall
issues to worry about it. I have a couple of clients on my laptop so
when I am out and about I can connect to my * server from that, I have
no probs...
