All you need is a computer interface and some temp sensors. Then solder
sensor to a
bit of Cat5 and hook up to PC interface. There is software to display the
temperature
for download. One way is to use a Temp8 interface (http://www.midondesign.com/
TEMP08/TEMP08.html) and homeseer ..  . which is recommended by many on the
homeseer forum.

The Temp08 interface does all the sensor polling itself. . . .  reducing
the strain on
the PC if you poll the sensors regularly.

Using HomeSeer, you can of course add voice announcements (for exampe, a
1wire
temp sensor in fridge can tell you if you have left the door open/power
failure). and

Of course, thats the only a small part of what 1-wire can do . ..  humidity
sensors,
addressable switches and iButtons are all possible!
