I've noticed the most difference with video cables - composite, svhs, rgb,
component - but I reckon that's more because of the difficulty of designing
good _cheap_ video drivers.
Also, because of the way the retail market is going, with margins slashed
at
every opportunity, and prices dropping like stones with people totally
unwilling (in general) to pay for service (which they still expect,
however)
the increased margin on cable and accessories are often the only ways
stores
can profit on a sale.
Without cables and accessories we'd all be shopping at Comet/Currys/Dixons
-
UGH!

(Example from yesterday, whilst selling decent home cinema system -
Customer was just browsing through Comet, and noticed JVC plasma. This unit
has seperate tuner and panel, joined by umbilical, which because of room
constraints is what this customer requires.
Customer: Is this umbilical available in larger lengths?
Drone: Err..
Customer explains requirements to largely blank looks and indifference.
Drone (brightly): You could always ring JVC!
Customer: (Thinks: for this sort of money _you_ could ring JVC for me!)
Thanks, bye!

Is this what we want our buying experiences to descend to? Support your
local
(or not so local, depends what kit you want) independant store. It might
cost
more than 'net prices, but you get so much more. (Unless your local is
crap,
in which case they don't deserve to survive in competitive times.)

Phew! Didn't realise soapbox mode was _on_.
_off_ now!
