That's why I set myself a limit of 1 hour on the train. Colleages who live
much closer spend 30 or 40 minutes trundling in on their commuter
cattle-trucks, while I zoom along in inter city comfort. I feel quite
happy
to spend an extra 15 or 20 minutes each way for the enormous difference it
makes in the kind of home I can afford.
But I do agree that there is a point where all that travelling becomes
counter productive!

I do 130 miles a day round trip which works out at about 3 hours driving on
a normal day - throw in a bit of rain and you can add an hour to that,
throw
in a bit of snow and you can easily more than double it. Living away from
work is great in so far as you can get cheaper houses (for what you get)
and
green fields but if you're spending too much of your own time travelling
then is it worth it?
