Re: The price of hifi...

The only one that I can think of is jewelery. Inspired by last nights
inves=
tigation into the Queens wealth, the Cullinan 4 and 5 broach worth in
exces=
s of =A320m for 2 quite large stones (40 - 50 karrats) and a much smaller
p=
ink diamond broach worth similar. So here we have an arena where size is
no=
guarantee of value and the price range is infinitely larger

Is there any other type of product where the range in price from cheapest=
-dearest is so big?

We were invited to an evening with Meridian and Dynaudio on tuesday, and =
jolly good fun it was, too.

However, it struck me that one can go into Richer Sounds, and buy a pair =
of speakers for, say, =A350. Alternatively, the most expensive pair I've
he=
ard to date was the Dynaudio Evidence Master, which cost a cool =A351,000
p=
er pair.

I'm hard pressed to think of ANY other type of new, commodity, purchase w=
here you get a range of 1,000-fold from the cheapest to the most expensive.

New cars, for instance, start at around the =A35k mark for a Perodua thin=
gy... but the most expensive new cars are around the =A3300k mark -
"only" =
60 times more expensive...

Laptops are even more closely bunched.... an "el cheapo end of
line", but=
nonetheless new, laptop can be had for =A3350... but you're hard pressed t=
o find anything on the market for more than 20 times that.

Anything? Boats, maybe?

Mark
