RE: (OT) Ikea Shelves
Are the brackets actually solid without the shelf on them? I've just done
my best to find some play in my shelves, but there's nothing there - very
solid.
My walls are plaster/breeze, and relatively straight, and as Dean said, I
used some fairly big screws to fit the bracket - probably at least 600mm.
It's not unheard of for Ikea to have a production fault that effects a lot
of the same product (it's happened to me). Is the play horizontal or
vertical?

yes peter that is one.
I have a stud wall does that make a difference ?
when I put the shelf on the brackets and turn
the "locking" screw there is still play in the shelf.
I have tried quite a few of them.
either that or the walls has to be dead straight and
even for it to work.

These are the ones without any visible support right?
If so, I've got 2 of them in my study with no wobble. Just screwed the
mounting bracket into the (solid) wall, slotted the shelf on, and tightened
up the small locking screws on the underside of the shelf.
Of course, I may have the wrong self in mind, there's a lot of stuff in the
Lack range.

I have thought the same but I have seen them setup elsewhere and this no
wobble

Quoting aashram (groups@xxxxxxx):

Isn't that the way Ikea furniture is supposed to be?
