Re: Router & WAP in one - good idea or bad?
Maybe - depends on your needs. If you place it in Node0 and you get
pants reception then your in trouble... wouldn't it be better to
have a seperate one placed strategically in the middle of your
house?
or one on each floor (i'm assuming it ould be easier to manage 2 or
3 WAP's from the same manufacturer as they would have the same
management interface - rather than having to remember when DHCP is
on 3 different layouts!) - or you could mix and match different
speeds in different areas for different applications?
Also, if you wanted to upgrade to wireless g or something newer when
its released if you have an 'all in one' your up the creek unless
you can get a firmware upgrade. Its much easier to change a
seperate box.
Most importantly, if you have a webpage ith all your devices that
need web-management having a seperate router adds another item to
the list, which (in my opinion), adds another wow factor when
friends say how much stuff do you have!
It does mean more cabling though... :)
Sometimes you can get BOGOF or similar deals so i'd watch out for
those rather than paying full whack for 2 or 3 WAP's.
Anyway, just my thoughts.
