Re: Amplifier and Speakers

Personally, I have a Linn set up in the kitchen, driven by a Rio Receiver
as
the source, so I don't think that the Richer Sounds route is overkill at
all.

However, I fully endorse the "second-hand hifi is fantastic"
value line.
Most of the hi-fi in my house is second-hand / ex-demo / previously owned /
insert eumphemism here.

Second-hand speakers are particularly good, since you can generally tell on
a very quick demo whether they work or not - 99% of failure modes are
immediately obvious.

Amps are almost as good. If you're realistically going single-source, then
you can pick up a bargain with "one or two inputs broken"
provided one of
them is still good.

CDs / DVDs are the most dodgy - moving parts = things to go wrong... and
they can have complex failure modes that you don't spot until too late :-(

Hi Nick,

What are your thoughts on using a 2nd hand amp ?
