Hi Nick,

What are your thoughts on using a 2nd hand amp ?=20

I have just acquired a SlimDevices Squeezebox - and very
good it is=20
too. Once we move house, I envisage lots of CAT5 cable and
some=20
servers in the garage (MP3s, Security Cameras, etc) - all
the things=20
that are taking up space and making noise at the moment, not
to=20
mention more Squeezboxes!

Anyway, to the point. The Squeezebox is going in the
kitchen for=20
now, to replace a bulky CD player. I want to get two
speakers and a=20
small (cheapish but decent) amplifier.=20=20

I'm sure Maplin used to do some suitable amps, but I think
they have=20
moved on to "greater" things.

Richer Sounds can do me an amp (Cambridge A1V3) for =A370 and
speakers=20
(Gale) for =A340. These are probably way over-specified for
provision=20
of background music while the Mrs slaves over the cooker(!)
and are=20
also quite large.

I thought of "computer speakers", but these seem to all want

a "speaker level" input - and, when fed from the headphone
socket on=20
the Squeezebox, tend to hum a bit.

Ideas and pointers welcome.

Thanks,

Nick
