RE: Re: New UK Building Regs. Will Outlaw DIY Wiring

Dont mention colour changes to me :)

I currently have 80+ tonnes of Black & Red twin and earth cable...

Also we the massive hike in copper prices we've seen t&e rise by 50% in
the
last 2 months :(

There is going to be a period of change when you can use either or, then
mix
red/black and brown/blue, and eventually brown, blue only which i believe
is
end of 2005.

(adding extra light, or another socket to existing ring) you're fine. As
soon as you start replacing/adding to "the protection device" you
need to
certify or be inspected. So adding a socket is fine to DIY, Replacing a
fusebox/MCB isnt.

I belive they're also changing the colouring of the cable you buy e.eg
T&E
?
Not sure if this is related (so its possible to idenitfy
"additions") or
co-incedental

I wasnt aware there was a huge problem that needed rectifying - but I'm
sure
the government knows best.....not. More nanny state.
