RE: Broadband Champion
I got a 'standard' web site from another ADSL campaigner (you can see my
copy at www.broadband4wheldrake.co.uk). This feeds registrations into
Eclipse (but you are not tied to them as ISP).
Around 50 people had already registered via BT when I got involved. I got
the local primary school head to send leaflet home with the school kids
(200
kids, incremental registration of 30). About 50 people registered
themselves via the web site.
Last weekend, we needed about a hundred more registrations, so I went door
to door. Targeted a couple of the new housing developments in the village
(their front doors are close to the road, the houses are close together, I
guessed that the people in them would probably be more likely to want
broadband now / in the near future). Where there was someone in the house,
I explained what I was trying to do & asked if they wanted to register
themselves or let me do it on their behalf. Got 120 names, phone numbers
&
postcodes that way. Around another 15 people responded to the leaflet that
I pushed through their door.
We passed the trigger level last Sunday (once I had finished entering the
new registrations).
So my experience is that talking to people & registering on their
behalf
works best.
I can give you a copy of the leaflet that I prepared if you want &
point you
to the person that gave me the framework for the web site.

Well, we got an eclipse campaign going (www.wewantbroadband.co.uk ) and
they printed hundreds of leaflets for us!
Each time we did a ground pound and posted the leaflets through doors
there was a noticeable increase in numbers registering. Get the local
press involved too - we had a journalist from the "Airdrie and
Coatbridge advertiser" run a series of stories about the campaign -
each
thing again gave a little kick.
If you are in Scotland, speak to Scottish Enterprise - our exchange
didn't actually hit trigger - we got to 315/350 and the "Scottish
lowlands broadband partnership" stepped in :)
Our RFS date is 31st March, so at this point, all the wandering around
neighbourhoods is well worth it - at the time, it was a right royal
pain. I would say - don't be down if you don't get instant results. Most
exchanges on adslguide show a gradual climb, not a dramatic
"whoosh".

Who was the Broadband champion who single handedly brought BB to a
neighbourhood - I have just heard from BT that if I can get enough
people interested they will turn it on : ) and I am out to steal as many
good ideas as I can!
TIA
Tim.
