RE: Home LAN - IP Ranges
You can use
192.168.X.X
or
10.X.X.X
We use 10.X.X.X Subnet 255.0.0.0 at work and I use 192.168.X.X Subnet
255.255.0.0 at home so far no problems. I know from bitter expreiance
that it is a pain in the kneck trying to connect to a network with the
same subnet as you. You might be able to use a subnet of 255.255.255.?
use http://www.telusplanet.net/public/sparkman/netcalc.htm
to work out
what your subnet would be.

LOL.
My home network uses 172.27.1.0 /24. - purely because that used to fit
in
with the company I worked for 6 years ago when I first started IP
networking.
So far (and a couple of companies later) I.ve never had to change - NAT
has
always overcome any issues. Not sure I could retrain my fingers to type
another subnet now ;-)

Subject: [ukha_d] Home LAN - IP Ranges
My home LAN is currently on the range 192.168.0.x (as I'm using
Windows
ICS), but this has meant I'm unable to VPN to work as it uses the same
range. With ADSL arriving in a few weeks time I'll be taking the
opportunity to change my home LANs IP range to overcome this.
I've no understanding of Subnets, but from what I read a "class
C" IP
range
allows 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks. Ample :)
So, I was planning to use 192.168.1.x at home, until James H mentioned
it
might be a good idea to pick something more like 192.168.123.x or
whatever
so I don't clash with other LANs I might want to VPN to in the future.
Anyone got any comments before I start changing IP addresses on TiVos,
Xboxes, switches etc?
Thanks
M.
