Can I not make this drive 'As New' with an Fdisk / Linux Format type
operation? and If so do you know how?

It's to do with Win2K changing the Master Boot Record on the drive badly.
It being a Linux type file system this leaves it unable to boot.
As far as fixing it goes, I haven't seen any way of fixing it.
I'd guess you could to a sector to sector copy of the MBR, but Win2K may
have smashed other things too...

As others have had no problems I suspect it's my download / Drive,
Having read the guides on the web about restores it says do not let your
w2000 pc boot with the drive connected as this can cause problems,
doesn't say what or how to fix though.. could it be this? I've taken
another BT today and am trying that at present just in case, else I will
get a new drive tomorrow and see if that make a difference,
Will let you know how I get on, meanwhile if anyone has any ideas
in-between I would be grateful for any advice,
Many thanks, Stuart.

:( Sorry to hear that.
I have not heard of anyone having problems with that file...... it has
been ftp downloaded on countless occasions, and my tracker says it's
been downloaded at least 10 times.
I've certainly not had anyone else say they've had a problem with it.
Are you following Hinsdale's with restore a pre-tested image? Do you
have a spare drive you could try restoring to (at least 40Gb) incase
it's a drive problem?
Cheers
