You dont mention what surface is under the glue, if it's floorboards then
you will need to strengthen the surface before applying the ceramic tiles
as the floor will flex and crack the grout etc.

I screwed 12mm chipboard to the existing floor, and used a flexible
adhesive (Balflex).

If your floor is wooden you could just screw the wood over the existing
boards, as you will need to do that anyway, especially if you have a
washing machine that likes to jump around the floor like ours, it makes
the whole house vibrate :-)
