I too have a v noisy switch - it's a Netgear FS516.  Can the fans in them
be
replaced for something quieter then?

Nah - this is "Whining Betty" ... A NetGear 16 port 10/100 switch
with
internal PSU.

I have actually found some fans in the CPC catalogue which are 5v and
*EXTREMELY* quiet but they are only about 5mm thick (REALLY!) and don't
move
much air - would be nice to find something a tad meatier.
