Re: [OT] PCI riser cards

Not had any experience of after market riser cards but..

Most new 10/100 Nics aee only about 3 or 4 cm tall and can be had for
under=
=A310. Potentially 3 NIC cards might be cheaper than a single riser.

Also whats the firewall sitting between ? If one side is a WAN /Internet /
=
DSL - link thats more than likely going to be the bottle neck rather than
t=
he shared PCI bus in the firewall itself.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] PCI riser cards

Hey all,

I am trying to piece together a linux based firewall. I am using an=20
old 550Mhz machine in a self-built case - however, I need to use 3=20
PCI NIC's (which are FAR too tall - guess who got thier measurements=20
wrong!). My only option is to use a PCI riser card. If I install=20
one (3 slots on the riser for the 3 NICS) into 1 PCI slot on the=20
m/board will they all work? Will they share the bandwidth of the PCI=20
slot I use on the motherboard and thus be 1/3 their max speed?

Is there another option, other than rethinking my case?

Cheers,

Matt
