Keith,

My point wasn't one of whether the system would work or not, or even one of
whether it would provide a better level of security than a conventional
key.

It was one of the insurance industry's approach to non-standard systems in
the domestic market.

Because of what I do, I fill in a lot of paperwork to do with property
insurance/finance, and I am convinced that I'd need to declare the use of
an
electronic system to my insurer at time of application if I were to have
any
hope of any claim standing up.

I fear that, were I to fit such a system, I'd be in the position where I
had
BETTER security but MUCH HIGHER insurance costs. Simply because the
"standard policies" would not be geared up to deal with the
systems, and the
specialist quotes always come in much higher.

Using such a system is not simply about adding the risk of swiping a card,
it's about adding the risks of systems hacks and security vulnerabilities.
Yes, it would be possible to have a Homevision system NOT connected to a PC
or a network, but my guess is that anyone implementing such a sophisticated
HA system is likely to have web access in the loop.

"They broke into my house because of a virus that undermined by server
security, your honour" :-)
