It all depends what you want to do, and the room aesthetics you want. If
you wanted to drive it down to a price, you might want to use standard
momentary switches (like you would with X10 LD11s), linked to Bus
Couplers.
Looking at Laser's prices on www.cbus-shop.com (and excluding price of
momentarys for neatness)
8 Channel dimmer =A3430.78
2 x Bus Coupler 2 x =A387.50 =3D =A3175
Total to C-Bus enable 8 dimming channels =A3605.78
Total during Li's discount period =A3514.91
Price per channel regular =A375.72
Price per channel discounted =A364.36
X10 LD11 on price from www.laser.com (using momentary switches,
excluding price of momentarys for neatness)
8 x LD11 8 x =A335 =3D =A3280
Price per channel =A335
Obviously at a later date you could upgrade some or all of the
momentarys to Neo, Saturn, Reflection, or any other C-Bus switch style
that comes out, or to a different type of momentary.
Each momentary could either provide direct control of a light
(on/off/dim/bright), or could be used to set several channels to a
preset level. You could even throw in one Neo in the living room or
somewhere in the initial install to allow more control in that location.
And before anyone points it out; yes, X10 does let you buy dimming
channels individually and build them up whereas with C-Bus, it's 8 (or 4
if you require 2A per channel) at a time, but with 6 rooms you could
quite easily want one light per room, with an extra light or two in the
living room and/or the bedroom, to provide the desired effects.
Hope that wasn't too boring ;)
Cheers
