You are obviously not from the small is beautiful camp then ;-))

I am trying to build a gadget with a credit card sized screen and a few
keys into something that will ideally fit into a double gang box or
thereabouts. Network connection and serial interface for major program
updates and add on modules like temperature sensing etc. Nothing like a
challenge I say and one step at a time.

I tried to desolder a 64 pin micro chip and failed miserably. I did
however learn how it was constructed internally after removing the shards
of plastic case from my hair.

How about using whole card.  I'm sure I've read somewhere about a
PIC-based
webserver that used a PCI network card to connect to the LAN...
