I am in the process of changing Broadband suppliers. I have been with
Freeserve for a couple of years now. Although they have been reliable I
am not impressed with the customer services, they quote 6 weeks for a
response to white mail...

Also my costs have recently increased from 19.99 (their mistake) to the
full 27.99.

Having decided to change I struck upon Demon who are a couple of quid
cheaper and provide a fixed IP, they also had a free setup for a wires
only service.

Now to the problem, Freeserve is delivered on a second phone line. This
is because I had ISDN on the first line and it was more expensive to
convert than to cancel, so I just cancelled and had the ADSL put on the
second line.

Rather than be without service I ordered Demon before I cancelled
Freeserve. Demon was ordered on the ex-ISDN line. I then get a prompt
e-mail saying its all done so last night I tried it.... Oops error
message 'No Dial Tone'. This is what the modem says if no carrier can be
detected.

It appears that the BT Line Jack Unit (which is BTs demarcation point),
labelled 'BT Digital Access' which looks like a standard NTE 5E has a
filter between the front socket and the line, hence no signal when I
plug the ADSL filter in the front socket. If I remove the face plate to
expose the second jack underneath and use that all is OK. I also notice
that there are IDCs for additional telephones (filtered?) and a separate
set which connect to the BT Home Highway box, which is no longer in
service, on the back of the face plate.

Now to my question, for neatness I would like to use a NTE 5 ADSL CCU,
which will replace the current face plate, where can I get one ????

Long winded e-mail but may help someone in the future migrating from
ISDN to ADSL, it caught me out for a while.
