When the w/m starts beeping, lick your fingers and stick them in a
nearby socket. That'll trip the RCD and turn off the w/m. Best save your
work first though ;-)

Or you could use X10 or one of those RF remote mains adapters if you
prefer to avoid the spikey hairdo routine...
