I know there are several Linux users on the list. I currently have a SCSI
TR-4 drive for daily backups on my server. This is playing up again and
could possibly be terminal this time :-(

Has anyone any experience of backing up a Linux box to a DVDRW drive ? I
was
thinking the cost of tapes is getting a bit excessive for home use and DVD
writing speeds are getting better. My main daily backup would only need
about 2-3Gb space, so DVD is fine.

On a techy note, I currently tar to my tape, is there a way of writing to a
portable (Similar to how Windows XP etc...) DVD format on the fly under
Linux ?
