WiFi loss

I've had wifi at home using the inbuilt receiver on my vaio laptop and a
linksys access point..

I am used to getting a 'very good' signal about -30db where as now I
have very low signal at about -70db even when I am next to the AP,
nothing has changed.. At this point I don't have an external card I
could try as I've lent it to someone..

Any idea's why signal strength would change for no apparent reason apart
