Do you not have a stationery cupboard you could raid for some very
important
company-related backups? ;-)

Thanks for all the ideas.  I'm off home now via Dixons in waterloo station
to buy some stupidly over priced CD-Rs of a different brand and try burning

Try using a different type of CDR ..

I have found only some CDRs work in some players.
