[OT] Norton Ghost/Acronis TrueImage

Gonna buy one of these today.

I have received my replacement laptop drive today - it looks like it comes
with a standard IDE connector ?

Is it possible to copy my old laptop harddrive image to a Desktop PC, then
install the new drive temporarily as a slave on the PC and install the
image
on to it so i can just stick it back in the laptop ??
