RE: Re: [OT] Help winternals locksmith required

Grab the Emergency Boot CD from :

http://www.short-media.com/download.php?d=66

It's a multi-purpose recovery toolkit that (amongst other things) allows
you
to compile an ISO image with just the bits you need (hence, smaller) - I
believe that you should be able to rebuild it to fit on a USB key to boot
from that instead. There is also a Floppy sized toolkit included in the
download that does some of the stuff required - password reset (not
recovery)

That being said - best solution is probably to source a laptop CD-rom drive
(you can almost always fit a CD-Rom in place of the FDD on older laptops)
and use the full blown emergency boot CD.

Help

I have managed to get hold of an old laptop I would like to add a wireless
network card but my problem is I don't have local admin rights windows
2000.

Having read various bits on the net it appears I can reset the local adim
password with a program called locksmith used to be sold by winternals. I
could format the PC but it's got some useful software on it that I don't
want to loose.

the laptop doesn't have a built in cd rom so I can't use a boot cd

Any other suggestons welcome

Best to reply directly as I don't want to make this a hacking thread

any help appreciated

Jason
