Prescott is the 90nm version of the P4 (Northwood, the previous version
was on a 130nm process).

Prescott consumes more power than Northwood, and some motherboards don't
have a beefy enough power supply (the one that generates the ~1-2V the
cpu runs off of) to work with a Prescott cpu (at least not in the
extreme conditions the motherboard will be certified to operate in).

Windows "System Information" should tell you which one you have.

That wouldn't explain why it works with your old cpu though, so I
suspect you have a Northwood...
