Ultimately, it is the highest bid that will win that is submitted by
the deadline.

Sniping or not, real physical auction or ebay, there is a simple rule
- if you lose an auction it is because you were not prepared to pay
enough for the item.  end of story.

I tend to always always win ebay auctions I bother bidding on, because
I want the item, and thus am prepared to pay for it, and I put in a
serious bid close to the deadline.  You may snipe, but if you're mean,
I will trounce you every time.

On the other hand, at real auctions, I often lose but thats part of
the fun...  But then I often lose auctions for things that I either
dont really need, or I guess ther'll be another one along next week.
