Gary

I modified some US modules some time back and whilst they worked fine the
biggest problem I found was getting the right components. By 'right' I mean
components of a size that would fit amongst the other components and then
also fit back inside the unit's case. I recall one particular capacitor
that I ended up buying several off from different suppliers before I got
the
right size. In the end it still worked out cheaper though.

I no longer use them though - basically I always had a nagging doubt in the
back of my mind about what happened if one of them went up in flames and my
insurance company found my mods to be the cause! :-)

Probably highly unlikely but as I then had the cash to replace them with UK
versions I played safe. I'm still using all my US IR stuff though which
I've found to have a greater range than the UK stuff. But then I'm
probably
breaking some licensing law with these! :-)

Hi,

Was thinking of buying some lamp modules from US ebay and modifying them!

Found http://www.geocities.com/idobartana/

Which explains in general how to do it, but are they reliable
afterwards and do they run any hotter than normal?

Any comments welcome

Regards,

Gary
