I spent ages looking for a reasonable but cheap set when I was unemployed
and hence "financially challenged" ... I plumped for a 28"
widescreen
Panasonic 50Hz set that seemed decent enough but the unit that was
delivered
(and which I still have) seems to have been colour balanced by Picasso -
skin tones are far too red and often have purple or blue blotches as the
colour balance is so far out (although not very many people seem to be
aware
of it and I'm often told that I'm being "picky"). The manager at
the store
that supplied the TV declared that the unit was "fine" however
when I asked
to see his ISF accreditation certificate and the graphs of colour
temperature taken from my TV that he used to calculate his "fine"
diagnosis
of the sets colour setup, temperature, balance and gamma he seemed to be
somewhat dismissive of me and nothing further has ever been done.

Basically get them to turn 100Hz processing on and off and see if you can
see a difference - myself I tend to go for TV's that *DON'T* have 100Hz
processing because I find the crappy and basic image processing that passes
for "New Super Dynamic DNSTPR" or whatever the latest buzzword is
to be far
more annoying than either its name or the 50Hz flicker it tries to replace.
If you find that you are susceptible to flicker from a TV set then try
putting a small uplighter *IMMEDIATELY BEHIND* the TV on a dimmer and
adjust
the dimmer and see whether that helps - the light behind will often relieve
a lot of the perceived flicker from a 50Hz set...

I understand it's pronounced as "Lurv" - they aren't cheap sets
but they are
bloody good. Generally they look sh*t (washed out and pale) in a store demo
under store lighting because they have their colour temperature and gamma
adjusted by someone who knows a rats ass from a bar of chocolate but when
in
a domestic environment (and lets face it you don't live in a shop window)
you'll find that faces don't look like they've had excessive make-up
applied
by one of the dodgy plasterers off DIY-SOS!
