Infra Red solutions?

  • Subject: Infra Red solutions?

Hi all,

I am just about ready to try to get my homeseer intergrated with my
AV and other infra red driven devices.

I have a PC running homeseer 24/7 in my garage on the ground floor,
with X10 etc.

All the AV and other equipment to be linked is in the living room.
(Projector, AV amp, dvd player, Velux window controls etc.)

To the living room I have extra runs of cat5 that I can patch up to
whatever I wish.

I would expect to cut up the cables on the infra red solution and
connect the wires over cat5 as long as there is not too much voltage
drop, it is only 10 meters max.

Anyway, what hardware is out there, and what experience do people
have.

I am aware of redrat, but I am not clear on how much interface
software is about, I don't know of other solutions.

Any hints and tips?

The other question I have is, I am looking for an RF keyboard with a
good range to use the computer in the garage from the living room, or
a solution that I can patch through cat5 again, as there is foiled
celutex in the floor space to insulate the underfloor heating and
this probably greatly reduces RF effectiveness.

So any experiences on remote keyboard solutions?
