Hey,

I have used some sony ericcson phones for the same purpose, just with a
PAYT sim, its really easy.
My g/f knocked up an app in Java that read the new messages and used them
to  place bids on online auctions, its good stuff... when i get round to
it i'll get it going again and plugged into the HA system, signals a bit
crap in my lair though, apart from strangely on 3!!!
