This image shows both styles at the bottom, the key difference between the
two is the raised 'hood' which covers the locking tab on the back of the
RJ45 plug. This is present on the boot on the right, but missing from the
left hand one.

As you pull the cable out of the rats nest of wires, the hood ensures the
locking tab doesn't get caught up on the other cables.

You can clearly see the locking tabs sticking up from the tops of the plugs
in this picture (scroll down to "Modular Connectors")
