RE: OT: Cedia EXPO
Ah, so you want to be a smart-home/custom install monkey on next to flip
all rather than an IT support monkey on flip all!!
Seriously, the CEDIA Expo would be a great insight into the custom
install industry. From my experience of this forum, the 'hobbyist'
(that's meant respectfully) and commercial markets are somewhat
polarised. We've been providing custom install solutions for 15 years
and yet we've never used (often never even heard of) 99% of the stuff
that's talked about here. I'm sure many of the members of this forum
would be amazed or appalled at the cost of equipment that gets used
professionally, but clients are usually anything but hobbyists and pay a
premium to get a system which works consistently and without tinkering
(and sometimes they get it).
Whatever involvement you're considering in the industry, the CEDIA Expo
is a must. I've not been to the satellite show for years, don't always
go to the hi-fi shows but CEDIA is the first 2-3 days I mark off in my
calendar every year.

Hi Nick,
My reasons for going is that I want to change career and instead of
being an IT support monkey on next-to-flip all, I want to go into
smart-home technology ie; c-bus et al. And perhaps go down the
integrator route.

As a company it's the best thing we attend all year.
It's more relevant
to us than any of the other shows so there is far more
stuff that's of
interest. We take everybody in the company for at least
a couple of
days, most of us attend training courses whilst we're
there too. Not
sure that it particularly caters for the 'hobbyist'
market
- more
Crestrona dn AMX than Fuji panels - but I'm sure it
would still be of
interest to anyone with a passion for home entertainment
and automation.

Afternoon Gent's
As some of you work within this industry, I wondered if
I could ask a
question;
I'm thinking of attending the cedia expo this year,
however, I havent
ever attended anything like this so wondered if anyone
attended last
year or is planning to do so this year. And if you went
last year, what
were your thoughts on it all ?
