Re: Serial VFD troubles

I know, I know...
I'm starting to see the error of my ways :p

Not really expecting to win, I put a bid on this one and got it!
I would have preferred to have purchased a brand new one form a
reputable source (and all round super chap ;-)), but couldn't really
justify the expense.

Now I've seen one of these in the flesh, at least in test mode, I
know I absolutely MUST have one for displaying HA messages (my LCD
just looks pathetic in comparison!), which means if this turns out to
be knackered I'll probably end up grovelling for a new one from your
good self :-)

Anyhow, the garbage I refer to is random characters, not the test
mode - that works fine.

I have tried another PSU and while swapping wires around the serial
GND wire broke (solid core CAT5 not ideal I know)-I guess that might
have had something to do with it :-) It now displays an underline at
position 1, which I suppose is progress, but I still don't see
anything from a terminal app though.

Will play more later.

Cheers,
Justin.
