I agree,
I've been using Windows 2000 disk mirroring for a quite a while and
several times I managed to recover data from either disk.
I also use that feature when I'm performing some risky upgrades too.
Just break the mirror, disconnect drive and perform upgrade.
If everything works for a while (couple of hours), I plug back the other
disk, erase it and re-establish mirror.
If there is a problem I erase upgraded one and re-establish mirror from
the old one.
It worked 6-7 times so far.

This is not true.
I have used for years several type of RAID installations (mainly 1 and
5),
both software and hardware (SCSI or ATA) and EVERYTIME I was able to

If you have a proper configuration then you are on the safe side (with
the
condition to have enogh good drives in the RAIDSET to recover, as in
theory).
Best regards,
Dan
P.S. Even the Windows 2000 software RAID1 (Mirror) can recover without
any
problem from a single drive failure. If it is the second drive from the
RAIDSET, then it works with a single drive as nothing happen with just a
degraded performance. If the first drive fails, then you must have a
special
boot diskette(usually build during RAID initial configuration) in order
to
be able to boot from the second drive.
