I havent done any barcode scanning at home but.... several years ago I used
to get involved in bar code scanning at work. At the time the scanners we
used fell into 2 catergories. 1 style were dedicated scanners which had
RS232 serial interfaces and the others mimic'd a keyboard (often in-line
with the real keyboard). Either way an appropriately decoded stream of
characters was output.

No idea how you go about matching that decoded bar code to "Heinz
Beans"
though...

Hi,

I read here before that some of you scan your empty boxes before they
go in the bin and reorder them via internet supermarkets.

What scanner do you recommend for this, and does it come with an SDK
for you to write your own software? Have any of you made web sites
describing what you have done?

Thanks,
Stephen.
