Re: [OT] Windows WTS

Hi,

Ultimately the maxium you can run will depend on the application, and=20
how resource/processor/disk i/o hungry it is. I have 20+ Citrix=20
servers hosting various apps in London to european users, and a whole=20
office in paris whos complete desktop runs from London. To increase=20
you number of users /per server and decrease the number of servers=20
you have to manage I recommend:

- HP Proliant 360 G3 servers. 1U jobs with dual 3Ghz Zeon=20
processors and 3 or 4GB ram. These have huge procesing power.

- Make sure you get the write cache option for the raid controller=20
otherwise things can slow a little under heavy load.

- Using Windows Server 2003 will allow 20-40% more users than 2000=20
server on the same h/w due to better disk i/o and other improvements.=20
2003 is still failry new/untested, so you need to test carefully.

- I'm also using a product called Appsense Optimizer. Which has a=20
virtual memory optimizer. This gets another 20-40% increase of users=20
per machine. (see www.appsense.com) for =A3500 per server this makes=20
commercial sense.

- If you can stage the rollout and gague capacity as you go it will=20
help. Otherwise you need to test with as many users as possible.=20=20
There are good resources on the web (see www.dabcc.com) to tune you=20
server build to get more users per server.

- If your purchasing 400+ licenses (remember you only need 1 per=20
concurrent user not one each) approach a Citrix Partner to get you=20
discount.=20=20

Hope this helps
