Dave,

Deadlocks from cars ? These'd be 12V, but do they actually shoot a bolt or
just engage within the lock mechanism ?

RS Components do loads of solenoids that are very inexpensive, but they are
either push or pull types. I have not found anything that is bi-directional
and does not require power to hold them in one position. Might need to
devise a suitable mechanical arrangement to get this to work with 22
solenoids.
