As far as I know, the cache card is designed to buffer the IDE traffic
whereas the memory upgrade is designed to double the available RAM for the
Linux OS. In terms of usefulness, the memory upgrade is perhaps better as
the OS can cache the IDE traffic in memory as well as other uses. eg. Less
swapping. However, the memory upgrade capacity is smaller than the cache
card.

It is true on Linux based systems, at least.
