Yes.

It is almost as quick to add a second drive as to replace the original.
Adding a second drive to an original that has recordings to be preserved
would be much quicker than replacement.

Adding the memory upgrade, effectively doubling the available RAM for the
Linux OS, does appear to speed up menu navigation. It might have other
benefits but they are not immediately obvious to me. The soldering of the
two SMD memory chips is straightforward, if rather tedious.
