with the xantech receivers i assume they still have some smarts located in
the tubes ?? The current pcb file has been modded for Clipsal wall plates
(aussie style)..Im thinking maybe getting a surface mount5 pcb done which
would make it smaller ....

Would it be possible to mount the receiver eye in a wall box and keep the
controller circuit the same as is currently - this might save Frank a lot
of redesign work ? The box of "smarts" could be hidden under
stairs, in a wardrobe, wiring closet etc, much like some of the Xantech
stuff.

Frank, IIRC you connect the emitters to the box with fly leads anyway don't
you ? Is there any reason these can't be 15m long instead of 1m long ?
