Re: Re: Weather Stations

I extended my cable to the wind vane without problems. It uses 6 way RJ11
phone style sockets IIRC.

The serial cable connection can be really long (although I don't remember a
figure) according to the specs.

Correct. I just connect straight into the PC.

The wind thingy, temperature thingy and rain bucket all connect back to a
small black connector box which has small plugs sockets for the inputs from
the sensors. You then connect a RJ45 patch lead between that and the
display unit. The leads from the instruments to the black box are about 10
metres long and from the connection box to the display about the same.
Having said that, in my setup, the RJ45 lead coming from the connector box
goes straight into a RJ45 wall socket in the garage and via the CAT5e
wiring to the display unit in the computer room. The over length from the
connector box to the display must be more than 30 metres alone. It all
works fine.

Battery backup of the main unit when power fails, so you don't lose
averages and rainfall etc.
