Sounds like the Xbox doesnt like the termination on the amp.

Is there anyway you can add a termination resistor onto the video leads.
Try
a highish value first like 1K just to provide a DC path, gradually dropping
in value until you get a picture. If you get too low the signal will be
attenuated and will be dark and possibly unstable.
