I've not automated the fan bit yet (shame on me!), but the ceiling
fan+light
combo we have at home has a terminal for wiring a switch to control the fan
in
a similar fashion to the light switch. The speed setting would have to be
pre-
set on the chain.

This fan was from B&Q and IIRC about £40. Other than being a *little*
noisy at
full speed, we are quite happy with it.
